Today is our ‘Helmand Day’ when we commemorate Operation MAR KARADAD 2nd–12th December 2007 and the liberation of Musa Qal’eh. Which involved the then 2 YORKS Battle Group in a mentoring and liaison capacity collaborating with the 3rd Brigade of the Afghan National Army.

During the operation, 28 members of the Battalion were commended for their actions. This included one OBE, two Military Crosses, eleven Mentioned in Dispatches, two Queen’s Commendations for Valuable Service, eleven Joint Commander’s Commendations, and one Commander British Forces Commendation. Two soldiers were killed, and 15 were wounded in action.

Today 12 December 2023, we honour all those who fell, the many of our colleagues and friends who were injured and those who still bear the physical and mental scars of the Afghan conflict. #Yorkshire #Infantry #fortunefavoursthebrave #FFTB
